CPMS For Android

CPMS For Android

2.4.2

cpms-34ecb-v2.4.2.apk

Download the app

1857227 bytes Requires Android 5.0 or later.

Download it here, on the device you are installing on. Chat apps and email re-encode Android app files, and the copy that arrives will not install.

Installing
  1. Tap Download above, on the phone or panel itself.
  2. When Android asks, allow this browser to install unknown apps. The setting belongs to the browser, not to the system.
  3. Open the downloaded file and tap Install.
  4. Open the app and sign in. It already knows this server's address, and it works out for itself whether it is on a phone, a wall panel or a television.
Check the file is intact

Compare this with the checksum shown after the download.

If the downloaded file is a different size, it is incomplete — download it again. That is what causes “problem parsing the package”.

If it will not install
  • An older copy is already on the phone. Android refuses to replace an app that was signed with a different key, and says only “App not installed”. Uninstall the CPMS app first, then install this one. Nothing is lost — the work is on the server, not on the phone.
  • The phone is blocking unknown apps. Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi and Realme each hide this differently: look for “Install unknown apps”, “Install blocked” or “More settings → Install unknown apps” and allow it for the browser or file manager you downloaded with.
  • The download did not finish. Compare the size and checksum above with what arrived. A file that is a few kilobytes short is an error page saved under an .apk name, and Android reads it as a damaged package.
  • Still refusing? Connect the phone by USB and ask an administrator to run android/install-phone.ps1. It installs over the cable and prints the package manager's own reason, which is the only message that names the real cause.
Which screens this works on
  • Android phones, 5.0 and later. One file covers every processor and every screen size.
  • Tablets in either orientation, including folding and near-square screens.
  • Wall panels and touch screens of any size, filling the whole display. A panel can be set to open the CPMS as its home screen.
  • Android TV boxes, HDMI sticks and Android-powered televisions — the app appears on the home screen and is driven by the remote.

Samsung Smart TVs are the exception. Those run Tizen, not Android, and no Android app file can be installed on one — the television cannot read the format.

Samsung televisions have their own section further down this page, with their own download and the address to type on the set.

CPMS on a Samsung television

Samsung sets made since 2015 run Tizen, which is not Android, so the app file above cannot be installed on one. There are two ways to put the CPMS on the screen instead, and the first works this afternoon with nothing installed.

Every size and every resolution: 43, 50, 55, 65, 75 and 85 inch sets, Full HD, 4K and 8K alike. The display is laid out from the width the television reports rather than from a fixed design, so type stays readable from across a room and nothing is cropped at the edges.

1 The television's own browser

Nothing to download, nothing to sign, and it works on every Samsung set — and on an LG, a Sony or any other screen with a browser in it.

Type this address on the television

https://34ecb.bytesdoctor.com/tv/

  1. On the remote, open Apps and then Internet — Samsung's own browser.
  2. Enter the address above. It is short on purpose: a remote picks each letter off an on-screen grid, and this one has no symbols to hunt for.
  3. Open the browser's menu, add the page to bookmarks, and set it as the homepage. The television then returns to it whenever the browser is opened.

What this gives up: after a power cut somebody has to open the browser again. On a screen that is switched on by hand each morning, that is the whole difference.

2 Install the CPMS Display application

A signed Tizen package. Use this when the television must come back up showing the wall by itself after a power cut, with nobody in the building. It asks for this server's address once and goes straight to the display on every start afterwards.

Download for Samsung TV

This package is not signed, and a retail Samsung television will refuse to install it — the set checks the signature before it unpacks anything, and the error it shows says nothing about signatures. Sign it with a Samsung certificate first, then upload the signed build from the master data page. The browser route above needs none of this.

Installing it on the television
  1. On the television, open Apps and press 1 2 3 4 5 on the remote. Turn Developer mode on and enter the address of the computer that will install from.
  2. Restart the television, so it comes back with developer mode running.
  3. From that computer, with Tizen Studio installed: connect to the television with sdb, then install the downloaded file onto it. Both commands are in tizen/README.md in the project.
  4. The television shows a setup screen once. Enter this server's address, press Connect, and it goes to the display and stays there.

A developer certificate expires. A television stops launching an app signed with one after a few months and it has to be installed again — a recurring job for a screen in a corridor. A Samsung Partner distributor certificate does not expire, and is worth requesting before several sets are fitted.
